Are you looking for inspiration for your next haircut? I scoured Pinterest and Instagram last night looking for ideas for my curly girl cut today. In the end, I trusted my stylist. My only request was to keep my length and add some shaping. As always, she did great!
Before your curly girl cut (DevaCurl Cut), your hair needs to be freshly washed and styled. I prepare mine the day before. It gives my curls some time to relax but still be in their natural state.
I tried out some new curly hair styling products and wanted to share my wash day results as well as my salon visit results. Keep scrolling to read on! wash day thoughts
My recent wash days have left me wanting more. Do you have trouble with weighed down roots or frizz around your crown or face? Usually, this happens to me around day 2 or 3, NOT wash day! Ugh.
This time around, I tried to use products with little or no glycerin. I’ve learned that while glycerin is great for hydrating low porosity curls, too much of it during high humidity is a bad thing. Your curls can literally take in too much moisture causing damage and frizz! Since I live in the south, we are entering that time of year where almost every day has a high dew point. I noted on each of the curly styling products above, which ones were glycerin free.
My application technique this time was to finger comb and use praying hands to place the styling products below my roots. What do you think of the results?

thoughts & recommendations from the salon
My stylist recommended I stay away from coconut oil products as they are probably the cause of the extra weight on my curls. Her approved oils are olive oil and avocado.
My curly girl hair dresser gave me some shaping with layers and trimmed the curls that needed a little help. I love it! Below are the products she used to style my hair. While I normally limit the number of styling products to 3, this Davines bundle still gave me weightless, defined curls that smelled amazing! PS: (05/02/2019) I just did a little research, and the Davines This Is An Oil Non-Oil is not gluten free. If you have Celiacs Disease or are sensitive to gluten, I would not recommend this product. Below is a full list of the Davines products that are not gluten free:
- Essential Haircare Love Curl Cream
- Momo Potion
- This Is An Oil Non-Oil
- Naturaltech Nourishing Hair Building Pak
- Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner
- Liquid Spell Reinforcing Bodifying Fluid
