First Impressions of the Packable Travel Vionic Loafer

As I prepared for my upcoming three-week adventure in Italy, I decided to give the packable travel Vionic loafer a try. With plans to explore Italy’s charming cobblestone streets, I knew I needed to break in my travel shoes well in advance.

Finding The Right Fit

I typically wear sizes 8.5 to 9.5, depending on the style and material of the shoes. My flat feet and falling arches make supportive shoes essential. For me, the ideal pair includes arch support, minimal heel height, ample toe room, and lightweight construction.

What Makes the Packable Travel Vionic Loafer Special?

Vionic shoes are renowned for their comfort, support, and style, making them an excellent choice for travel. According to Vionic’s website, “Vionic’s breakthrough technology offers versatility, allowing you to have orthotic comfort in your favorite shoes. Only Vionic has its unique orthotic built right into its shoes for orthotic relief without the orthopedic look.”

Notably, Vionic Relax Slippers were featured on Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things list in 2016, and the following year, she highlighted their slip-on sneakers.

Pros and Cons of the Packable Travel Vionic Loafer

Pros:

  • Available in Camel Leather and Silver Metallic, versatile for any outfit
  • Classic design suitable for both casual and formal occasions
  • Removable insole
  • Synthetic rubber outsole
  • Low heel height of 1.12 inches
  • Spacious round toe
  • Packable design
  • Built-in arch support
  • Convenient heel pull tab
  • Comfortable without socks and no break-in period

Cons:

  • Removable insole lacks padding for the foot pad
  • Camel leather may scratch easily
  • Potential to stretch and become loose over time
  • Some noisiness when walking due to fit issues
  • Gaps at the sides, requiring additional arch support for flat feet
  • May need no-show socks for travel during spring, fall or winter

Sizing Tips for the Packable Travel Vionic Loafer

To ensure the best fit, consider sizing down by half a size as these loafers will stretch. It’s advisable to order two sizes and try them both at home. If you have specific podiatry needs, invest in better insoles and test them with both sizes to determine if you need to size up. (I’ve had great success with these medium arch support insoles.)

How Do Vionic Loafers Compare to Popular Travel Shoes?

In my quest for the most comfortable travel shoes for Europe, my Amazon order included Blondo Victory Waterproof Black Suede Ankle Boots, Ecco Soft 7 Low Cut Zip Bootie, and two sizes and colors of the Vionic Uptown Leather Loafer. Out of these, the packable travel Vionic loafer stood out as the most comfortable, stylish, and versatile option.

Final Thoughts on the Packable Travel Vionic Loafer

The packable travel Vionic loafer excelled in comfort and style. The rubber soles provide excellent grip for navigating Venice’s slippery cobblestones, and the flexible outsole is ideal for climbing St. Peter’s Dome in Rome. The combination of low heel height and shock absorption is perfect for long days exploring Florence’s museums. Additionally, the deconstructed design makes these flats ideal for smart packing for extended trips to Italy or Europe.

However, the one drawback was the gaping on either side of my foot, which is problematic for flat feet due to insufficient arch support. My concern is that the leather will stretch with use, becoming flimsy and exacerbating the gaps. Without adequate support, my feet would tire quickly, necessitating additional shoes.

Vionic Loafer Recommendation

While the packable travel Vionic loafer is nearly perfect, it falls short for those with flat feet. I hope Vionic considers adding more support for flat-footed individuals in the future. Despite this, I highly recommend these loafers for their comfort and versatility, making them a great option for day-to-day wear.
