Due to international travel restrictions during COVID, my husband and I focused on New England destinations we could reach by car. For January, we booked a romantic getaway at The Wentworth Inn. A charming 61-room inn nestled in the White Mountains of Jackson, NH.

Location: Wentworth Inn, Jackson, NH

A historic lodge with modern comforts. Perfect for guests and travelers seeking a classic New England getaway in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

Accommodations include rooms, suites and condos.  The Thornycroft Parlor Suites were renovated in 2014. (We’ve stayed in these two times.) Many of the suites come with private outdoor hot tub or oversized jacuzzi tub.

There is also a restaurant, bar/cocktail lounge, spa and a wedding event space!

According to the New England Real Estate Journal, the Wentworth Inn, built in 1883, was recently sold.

Pros of The Wentworth Inn

1. Outdoor Activities for every season

Due to its proximity to the White Mountain National Forest, there is always an adventure to be had. Relax by the heated pool in the summer or go golfing at The Wentworth Golf Club. Hiking by the waterfalls during the fall can’t be missed. In the winter, go downhill or cross country skiing.

2. Walking Distance to Town Attractions

The Wentworth Inn is nestled in the heart of Jackson, New Hampshire. Therefore, it’s close to restaurants, shopping and things to do. Our favorite spots are the following:

A short 2 minute drive away are the famous Honeymoon Covered Bridge and Nestlebrook Estate and Resort!

3. Breakfast Included

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Especially, when you have a full day of skiing planned!

When you stay at The Wentworth Inn, breakfast is included. On the weekends, there is a full buffet. During the week, you order from a menu. Dining is in the restaurant and the waitstaff are friendly. A joy to converse with even if you aren’t a morning person! (Tip: Ask for Jean!)

4. Private Hot Tub

There is nothing quite as satisfying as a dip in your private hot tub after a day of skiing, hiking or snow shoeing. Our romantic suite had its own balcony with hot tub, view of the mountains, privacy screen and outdoor television with sound system!

5. Modern Conveniences

In all our travels, we have yet to experience guest rooms this modern. You will love the heated floors, steam shower, speakers in every room and multiple televisions.

6. Luxurious Suites

When spending a weekend away as a couple, sometimes you just want to be alone. This New England Inn is the place for you. Our suite had a living room with fireplace, king bed and spacious bathroom. (Tip: I recommend booking a room on the third floor. Sound travels easily in this inn.)

7. On site amenities

If you are stuck inside due to below zero temps or a rainy day, no worries! Play a game of billiards in the sun room. Purchase a puzzle at White Mountain Puzzles and build it by the fire in the lobby. There are nooks here and there throughout the first floor where you can cuddle with a book or enjoy a cup of tea.

Cons of The Wentworth Inn

1. Nowhere To Hang Wet Clothes

If you stay at The Wentworth Inn for your winter vacation, more than likely you will be playing in the snow. This leads to wet snow pants, jackets and gear.

Unfortunately, there is not a way to hang all that gear to dry. I’d like to suggest to the staff that hooks on the fireplace mantel would have been awesome for this!

2. Hot Tub Noise

I am a sensitive sleeper. Noise easily disturbs me. The hot tub outside our room ran intermittently throughout the night. (Tip: Bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise.)

3. No Manual For tech

While the modern amenities of the romantic suites were awesome, we weren’t able to fully utilize them. The room lacked a manual to help us determine how to use the speakers or heated floors in the bathroom.

4. No Coffee after 11:00 AM

This is a big one for me. I enjoy coffee all day when I am on vacation. However, the tea and coffee get packed up right before check out. If you are looking to enjoy a hot cup of joe in the lobby or grab one to go, think again. In addition, our room did not include k-cups for the coffee maker. Wentworth Inn, we need more coffee! 🙂

5. Billiards not readily available

This is a big tip for those staying at the inn. If you want to play billiards, ask at the front desk. We thought it was out of use due to COVID. Thankfully, the bar tender filled us in.

6. Not enough parking in winter

This was our second winter getaway at The Wentworth Inn. During both our stays, we had a large snow storm. We lost several parking spots due to slow snow removal, which meant we had to park farther away from the inn.

The Wentworth Inn Summary Review

While a pros and cons list exists for this romantic getaway location, it does not mean we won’t be back. We plan to make this an annual travel destination. Currently, booking our third stay for January 2023!
